How to Move a Rockwell Automation Software Activation - Part IV

Rehosting a CodeMeter-based Rockwell Automation Software Activation

If you are moving or transferring, also known as rehosting, a CodeMeter-based activation/license, there is one extra step to complete the process. You will need to return to the initial host device to remove the activation binding to the CodeMeter container.

To rehost a CodeMeter-based activation from a computer without an Internet connection:

Follow all steps on Part II How to Rehost without Internet Access on the Current Host Device. Once completing the steps outlined in Part II, you will have transferred the activations to the pool of activations for rehosting. For CodeMeter-based activations, the data file is updated to indicate that the activations have been rehosted. Follow these steps to complete the rehosting:

  1. For a CodeMeter-based activation, return to the computer without an Internet connection, attach the CMStick (and removable storage device if using 9509-CMSTICKC), start FactoryTalk Activation Manager and perform the following steps to finish the rehosting process:
    1. Click Manage Activations > Rehost Activations.
    2. On the Choose Phase page, select I need to import changes back onto this machine and click Select Data File.
    3. Select the name and location of the data file on the removable storage device and then click Next Steps. The confirmation dialog will display. Click Continue to complete the removal of the activation binding to the CodeMeter container.

This will complete the removal of the software activation from the old device, making it available to activate on a new device. Now you can launch the FactoryTalk Activation Manager on your new device to activate the Rockwell Automation license.
