Grace Technologies: Safe-Test Point™ Case Study
Grace Technologies’ Safe-Test Point™ allows you to perform voltage absence tests from outside the electrical cabinet via high-impedance, protected finger, safe test-points, reducing your risk of arc flash and shock hazard. Grace Technologies conducted a case study examining the use of the Safe-Test Point at an industrial manufacturing plant.
At the industrial plant, personnel were tasked with monthly routine preventative maintenance, namely, physically testing for absence or presence of voltage on all their equipment, covering five buildings and close to 1.25 million square feet. Furthermore, testing required donning Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) rated for CAT II or IV. This bulky and expensive PPE took approximately 20-30 minutes to put on, adding up to 4-6 hours per year, per piece of equipment. Multiply that by the total number of motors and equipment that required routine Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and they were losing hundreds of hours over the course of the year.
Once the Safe-Test Point™ was installed, test points were brought to the outside of the enclosures – mitigating the need to sport PPE and maximizing safety. The plant continues to utilize and add Safe-Test Point™ to their facility, ultimately reducing their annual labor from 200-300 hours to 50-100 hours. The plant’s Electrical Engineer promotes the Safe-Test Point™ frequently. He states: “For general LOTO aspects, this device is a godsend for us.”
From now until September 30th, 2020, Grace Technologies is offering a free VTS product sample for qualified applications.
